Steve Nash Traded to LA Lakers!

In a marquee signing that could put the Los Angeles Lakers back into contention for another ring, two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash has negotiated a sign-and-trade deal from the Phoenix Suns to the Lakers that will team him up with the likes of Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol . By signing with the Lakers, Nash will receive a three-year deal in excess of $25 million, because the Suns ultimately agreed to sign-and-trade him to the Lakers, who can recieve Nash through the Lamar Odom to the Dallas Mavericks, which created a trade exception. In return, the Suns get four draft picks — first rounders in 2013 and 2015 and second rounders in 2013 and 2014. By signing Nash, the Lakers have insured that they have a pass-minded point guard who doesn’t mind passing off and sharing the points with his teammates. His partnership with Kobe Bryant makes the Los Angeles backcourt frightening. The Lakers team intend to keep its core group of Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum together next season, and now Steve Nash will be added to that core group. The Lakers have also expressed that they have no interest in keeping current point guard Ramon Sessions.
This trade has effected many teams, with the Toronto Raptors, New York Knicks and the entire Western conference.

– The Raptors were in the running for Nash, and were trying to lure him back to his home country. They offered the point guard $36 million on a three year deal, that would see the 38 year old play out his career at Toronto. But by missing the signing of Nash, the Raptors have lost a franchise player, one which could bring many crowds and lift a team by himself. It leaves one to think, what is the Raptors next step now?

– The New York Knicks would have loved to have signed Nash, as it would have sprung them straight into title contention, a combination of Nash, Jeremy Lin and Carmelo Anthony could have been deadly, but it wasn’t to be, as Nash chose LA, closer to his family and children in Phoenix, over the flashy but inconsistent Knicks. Nash would’ve been a great asset for the New York based franchise, adding a calm wise head to a team who desperately needed one.

– The Western Conference will be effected hugely! This trade propels the Lakers to the hot favourites of the West, and possibly the favourites with the Miami Heat to win the title!

My new Western Conference Predictions

1. Oklahoma City Thunder
2. LA Lakers
3. San Antonio Spurs
4. LA Clippers
5. Denver Nuggets
6. Minnesota Timberwolves
7. Dallas Mavericks
8.  Memphis Grizzlies
