Mens Olympic Basketball Placing Prediction

The 2012 London Olympic games are due to start on Friday the 27th of July. Alongside athletics events and track and field, basketball will also be a popular sport to watch. Today I will be doing my Olympic placing predictions for the Men’s basketball event.

Groups:

Group A:

  • Argentina
  • France
  • Lithuania
  • Nigeria
  • Tunisia
  • United States of America

Group B:

  • Australia
  • Brazil
  • China
  • Great Britain
  • Russia
  • Spain

In both these groups there are some very strong teams that with the right skill and mindset all have the potential of winning gold.

Group A:

Coming off the back of a gold medal win at the last Olympics, the USA will have a very good chance of winning in their group. Players like Kevin Durant, Lebron James, Kobe Bryant and Chris Paul will only make a win easier for the USA. Then second will be France. With Tony Parker being a key player in the French lineup, this will give the rest of the team a player to work around and feel comfortable with whilst playing. In third will be Argentina. With players like Ginobili and Delfino, the Argentinean squad will not be an easy beat. Fourth place in group A will be Lithuania. This team is still a developing team so don’t expect any miracles from them. Nonetheless they are a very sturdy and solid team.

Group B:

The Spanish squad in Group B will be a very strong squad in the Olympic basketball event. With the likes of Pau Gasol, Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka, the Spanish squad will definitely be a hard team to beat. Second place in Group B will be Australia. I think that the Australian team will surprise us all, coming second in Group B. Mills, Anderson and Nielsen will all work together well in the Australian line up. I think that this teamwork will get Australia through to the next round. It will be interesting to see what happens regarding the Australian team. In third will be Brazil. I think that it will be close between this squad and Great Britain. Both squads have star players like Nené and Deng which will get them over the line when it really matters.

Finals Predictions:

Here are my predicted placings after the group stages.

A1 USA

A2 FRA

A3 ARG

A4 LIT

B1 ESP

B2 AUS

B3 BRA

B4 GB

Semi Finals Predictions:

AUS v USA

FRA v ESP

Finals Predictions:

USA v ESP

AUS v FRA

I think that these matchups are very plausible considering that these four teams do well in their matchups after the group stages.

Placing Predictions:

1st: USA

2nd: Spain

3rd: France

4th: Australia

The American Olympic team has very skilled and strong players such as Lebron and Kobe. These players will ultimately get them over the line when it comes to getting the gold medal. Spain will come close to winning in the finals, but will lose by 11 points. Meanwhile in the match for bronze France will beat Australia by the slightest of margins winning by only 3 points. By putting Australia second in the Group B placing is not a bias act on my part. I didn’t do that just because I’m Australian.

It will be an exciting event to watch in the Olympics. The winner is ultimately going to be the team that puts in the most to every game. I am very curious to see how this goes in reality.

That is my review on the 2012 Olympic basketball standings. I hope you enjoyed.

Thanks..

Ryan..
